Departmental Mission: It is the responsibility of the Assessor's Office to locate, identify, and appraise at current value, property (which includes real property, manufactured homes, corporate property, livestock, and business personal property) in order to fund the cost of local government. The Assessor's Office also provides, produces, and sell's area maps to the taxpayer. Departmental Goals: To locate, classify, value, and identify ownership of all property in Lea County subject to ad valorem taxes; while providing accurate and timely information on this property to the public and to the management of the various tax jurisdictions governed by the laws of the State of New Mexico. Departmental Strategy: The strategic scope of the Assessor's Office for FY 2000 - 2001 is to continue to improve the techniques of finding the location, classification, and valuation of property in the County for various tax jurisdictions. Departmental Objectives: Operations: To send a questionnaire on each property sale and to send as many field appraisers out for as many days as possible this year. Employee needs: To continue to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the tax valuation process. |
